A small step towards ending child marriage
Bangladesh has a high prevalence of early marriage. In fact Bangladesh is among top five countries in the world in terms of child marriage. According to surveys two-thirds of all marriages in Bangladesh involve children.
Dnet’s Infolady programme, which essentially trains and educates women entrepreneurs to deliver knowledge and ICT based services to the doorsteps of their local community households took up a child marriage prevention project funded by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives.
Dnet held five sensitization workshops for, ‘Child Marriage Prevention through Infolady’ in Manirampur of Jessore, Shaghata of Gaibandha, Sariakandi of Bogra, Purbadhala of Netrokona and Kulaura of Moulvibazar. Their Infoladies would work towards preventing early and forced marriages in their community under this project. The workshops were attended by local government officials and elected representatives, as well as NGO professionals, intellectuals and local opinion leaders.
